ROEDERER
Making an exceptional champagne is quite an art, in more ways than one
Making an exceptional champagne is quite an art, in more ways than one
Champagne is synonymous with festivities, joy, special moments. And it’s become so common that one forgets how rare, precious and magical it really is. Especially when your name is Louis Roederer and it’s not just a brand, but a “maison” (house, as in “fashion house”). So what is a champagne “house”? Well, just like a regular house – a collection of places and people, with an atmosphere, a soul – but one which produces something exceptional. This product is what at Roederer they call “the work” (as in a “work of art”) because each bottle that comes from the Roederer house is unique, like a jewel that has been crafted and honed by human genius. And with our choice of words – unique, crafted, human genius – you’ll notice we’re touching on the subject of art. And it’s a good reference point because apart from being a big champagne “house,” Roederer is also a savvy patron of the arts, which could be summed up by the concept of the “artwork seeker.”
It’s a beautiful concept. But it’s quite a challenge to transfer such a sensibility with all its subtlety to an internet site. Duke took on this challenge and suggested a site that presents a promenade that juxtaposes works of art with the Roederer savoir-faire. On this promenade, the boundary between Champagne and Art is expressed in a poetic, emotion-stirring way. Everything in the graphics, text and interactivity is treated in a “surreal” manner, to imply a permanent path between the two forms of creation. It’s beautiful, poetic, and frankly it makes it hard to choose between the two worlds. But then, on the other hand, why choose at all?
